Why is Blue Light Good for Acne?

Blue light therapy to treat acne

When a person suffers with acne, we need something to help us get through the bad times. Blue Light Therapy provides that relief by killing acne bacteria.

Our skin sits on top of oil producing glands, and the oil produced by these glands keeps our skin flexible as well as transports dead skin cells away from the base and lining of the pore. These dead skin cells are transported up to the top of the skin by the oil where they can be washed away. Sometimes, however, dead skin cells clump together and clog the pore, or on other occasions inflammation of the skin triggers production of excess amounts of oil which can also clog the pore. When this happens acne bacteria can become trapped inside the pore. The problem occurs when the pore becomes clogged with dead skin and a blemish appears as the bacteria try to escape. The bacteria are motivated by survival and work hard to try and escape or to move to another pore.  Many bacteria are killed by the immune system, but those that survive colonize another pore and begin the spread of acne.

Light Therapy will kill these acne bacteria and help to slow or stop the spread of acne. Red light will heal the skin, while yellow and green light work to reduce inflammation and redness. We can get your acne under control and we also provide maintenance options to keep it that way. We always recommend a home care system to keep the skin exfoliated and balanced. We do not recommend physical scrubs.

At Bren’s we have 35 years of experience in working with various forms of acne, contact us today and see what we can do for you.
